چکیده

Abstract Hollow Electron Lenses (HEL) will be installed at the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider to provide a continuous and controlled depletion of beam halo particles by interaction with superimposed hollow electron beam, intensity as high 5 A, radii 1.1–2.2 mm for 7 TeV LHC operations. In this paper, issues related propagation beams are discussed simulations dynamics feedback HEL design presented. The main results rise accelerating voltage from 10 kV, in initial proposal, 15 kV validation T magnetic field solenoids being sufficient guarantee stable beam.

Collimation with hollow electron beams.

A novel concept of controlled halo removal for intense high-energy beams in storage rings and colliders is presented. It is based on the interaction of the circulating beam with a 5-keV, magnetically confined, pulsed hollow electron beam in a 2-m-long section of the ring. The electrons enclose the circulating beam, kicking halo particles transversely and leaving the beam core unperturbed. By ac...

Collimation Studies with Hollow Electron Beams

Recent experimental studies at the Fermilab Tevatron collider have shown that magnetically confined hollow electron beams can act as a new kind of collimator for highintensity beams in storage rings. In a hollow electron beam collimator, electrons enclose the circulating beam. Their electric charge kicks halo particles transversely. If their distribution is axially symmetric, the beam core is u...

Anomalous hollow electron beams in a storage ring.

This Letter reports the first observations of an anomalous hollow electron beam in the Duke storage ring. Created by exciting the single-bunch beam in a lattice with a negative chromaticity, the hollow beam consists of a solid core inside and a large ring outside. We report the detailed measurements of the hollow beam phenomenon, including its distinct image pattern, spectrum signature, and its...

High Intensity Polarized Electron Sources*

The status of the polarized electron source development program at SLAC will be reviewed. Emission currents of 60 A, corresponding to a space charge limited current density of 180 A/cm2. have been obtained from GaAs photocathodes. Electron beam polarization 20% greater than that obtainable from GaAs cathodes has been observed from multilayer &As-GaAlAs structures. Work in progress to produce hi...

High Energy High Intensity Hadron Beams KILLING THE ELECTRON CLOUD EFFECT IN THE LHC ARCS

A getter/electrode assembly has been devised to suppress the regeneration mechanism of the electron cloud effect in the arc dipoles of LHC. The assembly consists of a copper foil electrode, supported through an insulating layer on a stainless steel skid, which would rest upon the flat bottom of the beam screen. The electrode is coated with NEG to provide effective pumping of all non-inert gases...
